floor

rainbow on blue sky
black clouds and showers
looking i see it
it’s hidden away
there is watching
all around me
i sit here alone
cast your star over yonder
who knows where it falls
a lake, a river
a stream

i’m running on soft sand
trudging up hill
looking around not a soul
silent and still
air dry and hot
burning my mouth
throat is raw
i scream without sound

i guess i’ll just move onward
step after step after step
reaching forward to
break my fall
skin scrapes off my palms

where am i going
there are no lines
no reason
no map and no place

i smell the sand
i see the water
can’t reach the edge
of the shore

if i fall in
would i go under
would i resurface
or sink to the floor
