So Good

At last no fog to contend with today. I have not been in the water in a few days because it has just been too foggy. If I can’t see past the surf from the shore then I won’t see the shore past the surf and that is not a good experience. This is definitely the longest stretch of consecutive foggy days since I started my swims about 2 years ago. Usually it at least clears up by late morning or afternoon, but Monday and Tuesday were socked in all afternoon. Yesterday morning looked perfect until about 8 when it started to quickly roll in. So today when my meetings ended and I saw that the skies were still clear, I made a run for it.

I left the house at about 8:45 and the skies were blue and the air was warm. As I drive over San Juan Creek, I can see some haze in the distance and I am hoping it is not fog. When I get to the beach, it is just a perfect summer morning. Sunny, warm, and a smooth ocean surface. There does not appear to be any fog looming on the horizon either.

Walking down the stairs I am in the middle of Jr. Lifeguard rush hour traffic. Lots of youngsters with their mini cooler packed lunches. I’m anticipating cooler water today. We have had more onshore winds up through yesterday causing some upwelling. Surfline reports 60-62 and I have to remind myself that is not cold but it is not the happy 68 from last week. However, when I put my foot in the water, it does not feel all that bad. I’m thinking more mid than low 60s.

It’s just such a great day out. Did I already say it was warm? The sun is shining ever so lovingly on my back. The water looks so inviting. Small surf today and as I make my way out, the temp is not bad at all. Either 62 feels a lot warmer than it did this Spring, or Surfline is lying. By the way, I learned from a lifeguard last week that they call Surfline “Surflies.” Ha! So true. That said, I will continue to renew my premium subscription and watch the webcams frequently. I love you Surfline!

The entire swim is absolutely lovely. I open myself to receive all the goodness that the water has to give. I am activating all of my receptors and making a conscious effort to feel, really feel the wonder of being in this beautiful place. When I get to my Southern turnaround point, I briefly see a dolphin in the distance. The half hour Northbound leg feels like it goes quickly. I can see the “green monster” buoy in the distance and then pause once I reach it to take in the view. It’s so good.

I finish up and I take the walk up the stairs slow to soak it for all its worth. Every step is a gift. Oh…and the lifeguard is just posting the day’s conditions which reports a water temp of 65. Yeah - that feels right.
