Unstoppable Mindset

Road that leads to the stairs going to the parking lot. Looking out onto Salt Creek lifeguard tower

It’s Friday and a beautiful sunny morning. I leave the house a 8:30 and its 55 degrees outside. I’m finishing up The Magic of Surrender by Kute Blackson on Audible during the drive to the beach. I had not heard of the book or author before but Audible was having a 2 for 1 sale and it looks interesting. I’m a sucker for books about spiritual surrender. I am convinced that it is the only path to freedom but I’m not very good at it. I really like the book and the author’s style. I love the idea of releasing your attachment to the things that you think you want or need and being open to what life is bringing to you. We fight and fight what is in front of us, yearning for that special something else when in fact we just have to walk through the door before us to an outcome that we could have never anticipated but is better than what we were yearning for in the beginning.

I’m finding it a bit difficult to focus this morning because I’ve got two things stirring in my head. First, I’m excited about a podcast that just came out the other day. I’m featured on episode 29 of The Unstoppable Mindset podcast.

We talk about my passion for swimming in the ocean and some of the things it has taught me. Second I’m excited about this site, the Dana Strand Swim Report. I just started this project a week ago and have been posting to medium but I thought it would be cool to have a more personalized home for it. This is the first post I am publishing to the site.

I get to the water and it feels about the same as it has lately, but its impossible to get a real feel until you take the plunge. I’m starting the swim and I am convinced it is colder than yesterday. Not dramatically by any means but it may be more like 59ish than the 61-62 that Surfline claims. Lies! Hurtful lies. It’s ok. It provides a nice pick me up.

Visibility seems better today especially in the Northern half of the swim. I do love staring down at the kelp. Its really not that colorful. A lot of tan and brown, but the way the sunlight hits the translucent leaves, it gives them an electric affect that is really cool.

I finish the swim and notice that there is a beach chair that has been sitting here for the last week.

So if you are reading this and find yourself in need of a beach/camp chair. I’d say this one is fair game.
