Early swim today. Left the house at about 6:15 and it was just getting light. Skies are fully overcast but it is warm and pleasant out.
When I get to the parking lot, there are already several cars parked. The ocean surface looks smooth and the air is still.
I head down the stairs and step into one of the restrooms at the bottom of the stairs and I will not discuss the sight I beheld. Fortunately the other bathroom was in much better shape. I won’t really discuss it either though.
Heading down the ramp that leads to the sand, I can see two dolphins quite close to shore making their way slowly South. I never did catch up to them on the swim. I really have not seen much if any dolphins since July. Spring seems to be peak dolphin season.
When I get to the water it feels very pleasant on my feet. Even though it is early and this day does not have a “so warm” vibe going for it yet, this water is inviting.
Surf is about the same meager size as yesterday and probably even smaller.
I get in and swim diagonally South West. It feels warm and it is still and peaceful here. The swim is very enjoyable.
I’ve got my dolphin antennae turned up but it’s not picking up on anything.
There is a maintenance truck driving on the sand that I can see. It’s stopping at the trash cans and emptying them. Hopefully it will eventually make a stop at those restrooms at the bottom of the stairs.
When I get to the South end, I can see a bunch of fish but the light is pretty dim here for any good pics.
I turn around and head North. I don’t know if it is the current or if it is because things are so pleasant here but it feels like I make it to the point in good time.
I’m focused on the sounds around me, which are largely self generated. The sound of my breath blowing into the water and my hands splashing through the surface. There are the occasional bird sounds as well. It is relaxing to melt into these soft sounds.
On the way back to finish up the swim, I see some other swimmers swimming in the opposite direction as me heading North towards Salt Creek.
I finally reach the shore and head back to the parking lot. I shower off and there is someone else taking a much more thorough shower with cleaning product. Really not a bad setup here: showers, a bathroom that is almost always very clean and view, view, view.
