Construction - sounds just like dolphins

Left the house at about 10:30 this morning with partly cloudy skies. I was feeling particularly good today because I had thought I solved a major work-related problem. I have since discovered that it is still not completely fixed but I am a lot closer than I was yesterday so I’m still happy about that. As I approach the beach, it feels like the sky is getting clearer and clearer, which is always great. From the parking lot I can see a bank of cloud cover far in the distance. Those clouds are heavy and low but not fog and they give a sort of silver sheen to the water beneath them.

As I walk down the stairs the sun feels super good. I just want to stand here all day if that’s ok. Unfortunately it’s not.

No jr. lifeguards on the beach today - not sure why. Despite the crowd they create, I kind of miss them. They just remind me of school free summers before I had to work in order to eat.

The lifeguard station posts a water temperature of 68-70. That’s the highest I have seen all season but it is definitely not the warmest I have felt. That’s ok. It is still very comfortable and inviting. On the drive here I was listening to a podcast and the host, Rob Bell, mentioned that he was recently stung by a Sting Ray. I have never been stung by one and do not hope to get stung. I’m thinking of this as I make my way out through the shallows and I shuffle my feet (as one is supposed to do) to avoid them. It worked! No Sting Ray stings today. By the way, two things I learned: 1. If you are stung, the thing you are supposed to do is dip the sting in scalding water and 2. The pain peaks at about 30 minutes after the sting and then goes away after about 90 minutes.

I begin the swim South and all is well. The water is not super smooth but pretty mellow. The visibility is not great today so I did not take any underwater shots. However it is a beautiful day, the water is nice and I am very happy to be where I am. Just letting go into the water. Setting aside thoughts of what happens next. Letting myself receive this beautiful day and opening myself to the cool and refreshing water.

At one point near the Northern end of the swim, I think I might hear dolphin breath. The sound of the air being forced through their blow hole. I pause to look around and discover I am basically just hearing construction noise. I’ll have to remember this the next time I am bothered by construction - it sounds just like dolphins.

I finish up and the walk back to the car is just so nice. My body feels refreshed from the swim and the sun feels heavenly. A couple of times I catch myself hurrying to pass someone on the stairs and then I wonder why am I hurrying? My computer is not going to run off my desk.

When I get back to the car I take a look at all my photos. Pretty horrible. The thumbnails make them all look kind of like the same picture. Welp…I did keep a few. Enjoy?
