Kicking the Camera

I got up early and took a 9 mile run to North Beach. After driving my wife and foster son to the airport, and went directly to the beach and arrived at the parking lot at about 11:45. It was a beautiful day. Partly cloudy and getting sunnier by the minute. There was a solid breeze from the West and a fair amount of chop on the water.

Today I am trying something different with my camera setup. My right wrist is a bit agitated and so I am fastening the leash to my ankle. I head out in the water. It’s relatively warm and feels very comfortable. There is a lot of surface texture and I feel like I am in the spin cycle heading South. The camera leash is comfortable but its much more difficult to access the camera and take photos with it on my ankle. I try to move it and fasten it to a loop on my swim trunks. That was super uncomfortable since I found that I was now kicking the camera. I ended up moving it to my left wrist and that was awkward at first but eventually doable.

I’m experimenting more with underwater shots today which are mostly bad. I see a bat ray but can’t get to the camera soon enough to get a picture. This swim just feels like it is taking a long time because I’m spending what seems like a lot of time taking pics. The fact is that there is no real hurry to get home today so I’m not terribly bothered about this. I also have something on my mind today that is really agitating me and I appreciate that this swim takes my mind off of that thing.

When I finish the swim, I’m a bit relieved to be done. I want to get home and get a certain phone call out of the way.
