The 70’s are over
Left the house at about 10:15. It’s a beautiful sunny day.
I’m curious how the water will feel today. We had some strong west winds Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday’s surf report cautioned surfers to bring some “extra neoprene” and last night’s water temperature forecast showed temps were down about 5 degrees. The report made a big deal about us being out of the 70’s but that feels like someone complaining that they can only have a normal portion of hot fudge and whip cream on their ice cream and not a double portion. We are still in the mid 60s so how bad can it be?
Come January, we will be lucky if there is any chocolate left. Whatever fudge is left will likely NOT be hot.
I get to the parking lot and find my dad hanging out waiting for Denny for their morning walk. We both comment on how incredible the morning is…because it is.
I head down the stairs and the water looks great. The surface seems pretty smooth and it is just a beautiful blue.
Surf is definitely down a notch or two since my last swim on Tuesday.
I dip my feet in the water and yeah, it might be a touch colder than it has been in a couple weeks but it feels pretty good to me.
I start to swim out and after a couple minutes, I am very pleased with the temperature. The 70’s are way over rated. Nobody needs that kind of heat.
The water, while not crystal clear, definitely seems to be clearer and a deeper blue than Tuesday.
When I get to the south end, I inch a bit closer to the rocky shore beneath the cliffs than I usually do since the surf is so tame. Then just as I am starting to head back north, I see what I thought was maybe a small flock of birds rising from the water right in my vicinity. I take a closer look and I think it was actually fish jumping out of water and I could feel one hit me. I never see jumping fish around here but see it all the time at Baby Beach in the harbor.
The trek north feels like I am swimming in place, especially the second half. As is common for this time of day, the wind is starting to pick up. It’s not at all choppy but I can see a steady stream of rippling waves moving south east.
I finish up the swim and the water and shore just look so peaceful on this lovely Friday afternoon.
